Will Day was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the elder of two children. He attended New York University where he studied engineering and enrolled in the ROTC. Will's sister introduced him to Marjorie Jean Wilson in St. Albans, New York and on January 1, 1943 they married; they were married for 60 years.

Shortly after they married, Will went off to war as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He flew B-24s over Germany during the war and later flew in the Berlin Air Lift, bringing food and supplies to the people of Germany. He became a test pilot for the Air Force, served in the Judge Advocate General's office, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1963. Moving his family to California, he began his second career as a Program Manager with Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach until his retirement in 1993. During that time he had attended law school at night, graduating from Western State University in 1974.
